Warbirds Downunder Airshow Dates Announced

The Temora Aviation Museum is pleased to announce that Warbirds Downunder is returning in 2024!
The Chief Executive Officer of the Temora Aviation Museum, Murray Kear, announced today
that the dates for the next Warbirds Downunder Airshow are Saturday 19th October and Sunday 20th October 2024.
Mr Kear said, “thank you to everyone for their patience while new dates were identified.”
The last Warbirds Downunder was held in 2018 with the 2022 event cancelled, due to the region experiencing significant rain and flooding, which most New South Wales and Victoria had received, it would have been impossible to host a safe event.
“The decision was made in late September to cancel the event, in an attempt to give ticket holders the opportunity to alter their travel plans.” Mr Kear said.
Warbirds Downunder is one of the largest airshows in Australia, where over 50 aircraft are exhibited and flown over the two days. In 2018 over 20,000 people attended the event.
Mr Kear said, “The 2024 event will be bigger and better than 2018, with tickets expected to be released 12 months prior to the event, and the list of display aircraft to be announced as they are confirmed.”
Temora Aviation Museum will be hosting an exciting event towards the end of 2023 with further details to come shortly.

Due to recent lockdown restrictions, the Brisbane Airshow, due to take place at the Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield over the weekend of the July 3rd and 4th 2021, has been postponed until October 16th & 17th 2021.

Opening of Tocumwal Aviation Museum

We would like to congratulate Matt & Karen Henderson on the opening of Tocumwal Aviation Museum last week.

Founded by Matt & Karen Henderson, the driving force behind the successful 2019 Tocumwal Airshow, partnering with the Berrigan Shire Council and incorporating the outstanding work of the Tocumwal Historic Aerodrome Museum, the new Tocumwal Aviation Museum will be housed in a new purpose built and dedicated facility at the Tocumwal Historic Aerodrome thanks primarily to funding secured by the Berrigan Shire Council through the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Program as part of the Building Better Amenity and Resilience for Berrigan Shire Project and contributions by Rotary and THAM.

The Tocumwal Aviation Museum’s vision is to educate, entertain and inspire visitors to foster an appreciation for, and promotion of, Australia’s military and civilian aviation heritage and history, with a focus on Tocumwal’s unique and significant contribution to that history.

The Tocumwal Aviation Museum will be open 7 days a week all year round and incorporate artifacts, memorabilia, interactive exhibitions, historic and vintage aircraft static displays, regular flying displays and much more.

Did a member of your family train at Temora in the RAAF’s No.10 Elementary Flying Training School (No. 10 EFTS)?

We are interested in the stories of all 10 EFTS personal from trainee aircrew alumni, flying instructors, and the largest contingent of 10 EFTS personnel – ground staff. Likewise, we are keen to hear stories of civilians who interacted with the school. The RAAF’s 10 EFTS cohort form the basis of Temora’s aviation history, and we want to capture these stories before it is too late.

WARBIRDS DOWNUNDER CANCELLED

The Temora Aviation Museum management team has been closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation and its potential effects on Warbirds Downunder, which was rescheduled for 6 & 7 March 2021.

After reviewing all information, it has become clear that the existing COVID-19 restriction of 500 visitors on site makes holding a major event extremely challenging. As a result, the decision has been made to cancel Warbirds Downunder.

Existing ticket holders will be automatically issued a full refund, which will be facilitated by ticketing partner, Ticketmaster.

In lieu of Warbirds Downunder, the Museum will be hosting a different event on the weekend of 6 & 7 March 2021, with existing ticket holders being given first right to these tickets. The event may have as many aircraft as our previous Warbird events, including a considerable contribution by the RAAF in their 100th year. This event will be in line with NSW Department of Health and be currently limited to 500 people. If restrictions ease, then additional tickets will be released accordingly.

Temora Aviation Museum CEO, Murray Kear said, “After considerable effort to try and plan for this iconic event, it has been difficult to guess what the restrictions will be in March 2021. If the restrictions on the number of people we can have here are changed, we will ramp up and offer as many tickets as we can for the modified event in March 2021.”

WARBIRDS DOWNUNDER 2020 NOW IN 2021!

The Temora Aviation Museum management team is pleased to announce the rescheduled dates for Warbirds Downunder are 6^th & 7^th March 2021.

Tickets for the event will be available from 10am Wednesday 26^th August  at www.warbirdsdownunderairshow.com.au

The Museum’s General Manager Peter Harper said “Obviously 2020 has been a challenging year to say the least, but we are pleased to be able to announce this new date for Warbirds Downunder 2020, which will now be in March 2021. Naturally we are monitoring Government restrictions closely but remain optimistic that the event we be able to proceed come March 2021. Our team has already done some extensive work ensuring that the event will comply with COVID Safe Plan requirements, but we will need to see restrictions lift significantly from what they currently are to allow more spectators before the event can be economically viable.”

In lieu of original postponed Warbirds Downunder date, we are pleased to announce that we are planning to host a smaller flying event in the form of an Aircraft Showcase on 17^th & 18^th October, this will be the first flying event held at the Museum since November 2019.

The October event will comply with NSW government guidelines which means that currently we are limited to 500 people on site (excluding staff & volunteers), but we will be monitoring these imposed restrictions and adjusting as required. More information on this event will be shared on Social Media.

WARBIRDS DOWNUNDER 2020 POSTPONED

The Temora Aviation Museum management team have been closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation and its potential effects on Warbirds Downunder 2020. After extensive consultation and review, it has become clear that the impacts of COVID-19 would pose undesirable risks to the event, our staff, volunteers, crew and visitors.

As a result, WD2020, originally scheduled for 17 & 18 October 2020, is now intended to be deferred to Autumn 2021, with exact dates to be announced shortly.

Existing tickets will be automatically transferred to the new dates in 2021, so we encourage ticket holders to keep their tickets until then, however if they wish to receive a refund for the October event, this can be arranged through our ticketing partner, Ticketmaster.

In lieu of Warbirds Downunder, we are pleased to announce that we are planning to host two smaller flying events this year in the form of an Aircraft Showcase.

29th August (previously scheduled)

17th & 18th October (replacing Warbirds Downunder)

These events will comply with NSW government guidelines which means that currently we are limited to 500 people on site for these events (including staff & volunteers), but we will be monitoring these imposed restrictions and adjusting as required. More information on these events will be sent at a later date.

That’s right, we’re moving to a full weekend schedule. The decision to move to Saturday and Sunday was based on feedback from fans that the old format made it a little challenging for some people to enjoy the full event.

TICKETS ON SALE

Tickets for WD2020 will be on sale in time for Christmas via our ticketing partner Ticketmaster.

HOWEVER, we will email you before they go on sale to the general public with an exclusive “Friends of Temora Aviation Museum” pre-sale opportunity.
